I was faced with this extraordinary North hand.
Lets just say we had a mix up and ended up in 6NT.
Congratulations to the 2 pairs who identfied that it must be a grand slam.
Jim and Jenny settled for a very respectable 7 Diamonds.
Tom and Gill, starting their quest for a second Slam Master title, went for 7NT.
What happened at your table?

This was the first hand of the afternoon for us, so I was N and not yet in bridge mode. What a hand, 2 losers, what was my opening bid to be?
2C, I thought I was too strong for this, showing 23/24 points, Jenny would have bid 2D relay, I’d have then gone to 3D and probably stopped there, or perhaps 2NT, or 3NT, Jenny might have bid 4C stayman, but what then?
I thought of making 4NT my opening bid, asking for Aces, which would then have taken me to certainly 6NT, but Jenny might have been confused
So in the end I opted for 3NT, hoping it wouldn’t be confused with Gambling 3NT, which I don’t think Jenny recognises, but the bidding stopped there.
What did others bid, and why, not that it matters as a wonderful hand like that isn’t likely to come my way for a long time!
Cheers
Peter
