Bridge Training Courses |
With our age demographic it is obvious that we continually need to attract new members to both our Friday morning social rubber bridge group and our two duplicate groups. With this in mind I am planning on running another beginners course starting in January 2026. If you know of anyone who may be interested please ask them to contact me.
In addition I am planning on running some improvers sessions. This is primarily aimed at the members of this years beginners group and those that participated in the course that I ran online via Zoom during the Covid lockdown. It will be run in a modular format so anyone is welcome to join any or all of the sessions. The following are my initial thoughts but I am open to suggestions.
-
Week 1 - Revision, Stayman, strong two opening. Slam bidding (anyone who has been playing regularly should have at least tried to call a slam based on Gerber or Blackwood. It is a great feeling to make a slam when you have called it)
-
Week 2 - Benji Acol (weak two opening, transfers, strong two clubs/diamonds opening and responses)
-
Week 3 - Standard American bidding - Five card majors, strong NT
-
Week 4 - An introduction to Duplicate bridge including understanding scoring. The importance of the Double call. Why is it that someone calls four spades, goes three tricks off and gets a top score? If you do not fully understand the scoring mechanism you will always be at a disadvantage.
I plan to run these sessions in mid September and October. They will be held on Friday mornings at Sedbury. If you are interested please let me know. In the meantime I will adjust the content as necessary, based on feedback. This page will be updated with further details nearer the date of the 1st session.

Friday Morning social rubber Bridge |
The U3A social Bridge Group play on a Friday morning between 10.00 a.m and 12. 00 a.m. at Sedbury Village Hall. The convenors are Chris and Kerie.
Just turn up before the start time, if you do not have a partner the convenors should be able to fix you up with one. We play rubber bridge, in the main using the ACOL bidding system but if all four players at a table want to use a separate system then they may do so as long as everyone agrees.
