Our 2024-2025 bridge season, alas, will end this THURSDAY, MAY 8, 2025.  IT WAS A GREAT SEASON and we look forward to a new season to be announced in October, 2025, only 5 months away!

For those new to bridge in Puerto Vallarta, we are a n​​​​​​on ACBL sanctioned duplicate club, operated by a volunteer committee, that plays Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays* upstairs in the San Lucas Restaurant on the corner of Lazaro Cardenas and Insurgentes (entrance is the side door facing the Guadalajara Pharmacy).  * Saturdays begin the first Saturday in January.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my husband, Jack.  When Jack and I first came to PV, 22 years ago, he actually played bridge.  That only lasted till he admitted he didn’t really like cards and especially bridge!  Many poems have been written attesting to this, to the laughter of my fellow bridge players.

Jack’s life story is a testament to his dedication, creativity and love for family and friends.  His journey from an education major to a beloved teacher showcases his commitment to shaping young minds, earning him recognition as “Teacher of the Year”, an attestation to his impact on students’ lives.

In retirement, his passion for poetry and woodworking illustrated his artistic side, and many family and friends have been recipients of his many talents.  Jack’s legacy of kindness, creativity, and quiet strength will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

 Jack’s absence will be deeply felt, a void that cannot be filled.  He was not just a husband, father, grandfather, and uncle; he was a friend, mentor and a source of inspiration.  The stories he shared, the laughter he spread, and the love he gave will forever echo in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.  He truly embodied the essence of a life well lived, filled with love and meaningful connections.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

         

   

   

 

Our bridge community has again lost another one of our players, John Shannon, who passed on Saturday, April 19, 2025, following a few months battle with cancer.  John and his partner, Richard, lived in PV for many months each year and John spent many days playing cards with us at Coco’s and San Lucas.  He will be remembered as having a good sense of humor and great smile!

Barbara Kierstead-Shanks, a good friend of John’s, wrote this to share.  “John’s outlook was that he had lived a great life, travelled extensively, and was leaving behind family and friends who he loved dearly and who he knew loved him too.  John also knew he would be reunited with loved ones and friends who had gone before and that Richard and Fred the cat would be waiting for him.  John lived life on his own terms and that was how he faced his illness and death.”
