Thank you! |
Thank you all so much for your support during our first week of running our regular daytime bridge games at the Maidenhead Town Bowls Club.
As you are no doubt aware it was extremely difficult to find a suitable venue that could accommodate us for 3 consecutive days each week and which allows us to leave all our equipment in situ. The MTBC have been extremely obliging and helpful but to make this work we really do need your continued support, which is much appreciated as always.

NEW VENUE FOR FACE TO FACE BRIDGE |
MOVE TO ALTERNATIVE PREMISES WHILST TUDOR BARN IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED
You should be aware that Tudor Barn will be temporarily closed for bridge purposes for the months of November and December due to repair works. We have put an enormous amount of time and effort into trying to find a suitable alternative venue to accommodate our midweek games on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, which has proven extremely difficult but, finally, we have come to an arrangement with Maidenhead Town Bowling Club and our midweek Face to Face games will operate there from Tuesday 5th November until Christmas 2024.
The address for the new venue is Oaken Grove Park, Maidenhead SL6 6HL. Full details of how to get there and parking facilities are on the Bowling Club's website, at https://www.maidenheadtownbc.com/location , but be aware that the main entrance to Oaken Grove Park is from Oaken Grove. There is ample parking, both inside the park and in the entrance road from Oaken Grove. There are alternative entrances to the park from Courthouse Road and Blenheim Road and it is then a short walk to the clubhouse. We will be on hand to welcome players to the new venue from 5th November onwards.
Please be aware that we will not be able to offer lunch on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at this location, so all sessions will start at 10:30 am and finish by around 1:30 pm. We will be offering inclusive tea, coffee and biscuits as usual.
Bridge lessons and Supervised Play sessions will continue as usual at the Tudor Barn, but using the Chapel and Bride's room as appropriate; players will need to enter via the door marked "Chapel" opposite the clock tower in the main courtyard. We regret that there will be no Tuesday evening Face to Face bridge sessions until further notice.
Due to both the change in circumstances and increased costs generally, we regret to announce that table fees for Face to Face bridge will need to increase to £5 per person from the beginning of November; this is the first such increase in several years.
We hope that you will continue to support us in these challenging times and come along to this new venue!

Changes to Blue and White Books |
|
Please click here for links to important changes to the White and Blue Books. The books cover guidance and regulations governing bridge in England.
The Blue Book contains information that players are most likely to need. The White Book is mainly for Tournament Directors, although some players may also find the content of interest.
Note, in particular, the new Blue Book regulations on Alerting and Announcing.

Attending without a Partner |
Players sometimes come along to face-to-face sessions without a Partner,
in the hope that someone else will be similarly placed, or that the Director will partner them.
Members may do that, but we do not guarantee a game for them.
If there is no other spare player available, the Director may play,
but will not do so if it creates a half table or difficulty with the movement.
If you decide to come along without a partner you must arrive in good time and be prepared to play
with anyone else seeking a partner.
Please note that we have a partner finding service listed on our website; Please check if this lists
another player seeking a partner for the session that you are interested in.

Register Online in Good Time |
Please Login Early for Online Games
Please register for online games in good time. Preferably 10 but at least 5 minutes before starting time is appropriate.
Last minute logins cause difficulties for the Tournament Director and might not be accepted

Names Please! |
This is a reminder that the Club expects that everyone playing online must show their full name
(First and Surname) in their profile.
As a Club site, members should be able to see who they are playing against.
May we remind some of our newer players and a few more experienced ones that they should comply.

Undos in Bidding |
Undos in Bidding
The Club now allows Undos for misclicks in the bidding, but not in the play.
As soon as you realise that you have misclicked you may ask for an Undo.
The opponents will usually agree, in which case you may change your bid without penalty.
If an opponent objects, or in case of doubt, the Director should be called.
This brings us into agreement with most other Clubs
Please note that Undos are permitted only for genuine misclicks.
You may not ask for an Undo if you realise that you made the wrong bid.
Undos are still not permitted for misclicks during the play
Burnham Bridge Club are continuing to disallow all Undos
