World Teams Championships

These take place between 20th and 31st August, in Herning (Denmark) and there are England teams in each of the four categories - Open, Women, Seniors, Mixed. We wish all teams the best of luck. Richard Chamberlain & Patrick Shields are playing in the England Seniors team. Forty different countries are taking part, with 24 teams in each of the categories.  You will be able to monitor the results from this page, and watching the play online will be possible (details to come).

AFTER THE EITHTH DAY - the two England teams lost their quarter-finals matches (for some stories CLICK HERE and you can find the daily bulletin here)

  • OPEN: were +3 imps on the second day but never got ahead of USA-1 who now meet Belgium, while Denmark & Sweden fight for the other place in the final.
  • SENIORS: were +12 on the second day but could not catch USA-1 who now meet USA-2 in the semi-final, while Austria & Sweden battle out the other semi-final.

There are a handful of English teams (and teams with English players) in the Transnational Teams

Commentary is advertised for the entirety of the Bermuda Bowl on the channels below.

Congratulations

Top local player in the Cheltenham Congress Swiss Pairs was Paul Denning playing with Tim Rees, and in the Swiss Teams it was the same pair (with Garry Watson & Mia Deschepper) who came second of the 30 teams.

A regular foursome from the county - Garry Watson & Paul Denning, Richard Chamberlain & Patrick Shields - have just won the EBU's Seniors KO Teams (the Gerard Faulkner Salver);  It is their second win following success in 2022.

The most recent One Day EBU Swiss Teams was won by Jackie Davies & three from different counties; this follows a second place finish in March and a third place finish in February. ..........

REGULAR EVENTS

 MONDAY TEAMS EVENTS

SUMMER 2025

On the first, third and fifth Mondays of every month (but skipping Bank Holidays) we run a teams game live at Cheltenham Bridge Club. Teams can turn up unannounced and they will be incorporated.

Over the summer the set of eight sessions will be run as a handicap event, with the handicap for each player being determined by whatever scores they have so far achieved in the series. The handicap for the team will be 75% of the average imp score so far of the players concerned.  (The first session everyone will play off scratch).  It will be the team/players who improve most who will come out on top.

The series is an individual competition, with every player receiving an award - after handicaps are applied, one point for members of the team which comes last, two for the next to last etc, with the top award depending on the number of teams playing.

AUTUMN 2025

Autumn has a very similar pattern to the summer except that the third Monday of each month will be reserved for the County League. In particular Monday 1st September is an Open Teams game and any foursome which comes along can play.

  MONDAY PAIRS

SUMMER 2025

On the second and fourth Mondays of every month (but skipping Bank Holidays) we run an online Pairs League on Realbridge.  The first session is Monday 12th May. Pairs are assigned to multiple divisions and move up and down each week. It is easy to incorporate new pairs at any point. If interested email pairs-league@gcba.org.uk.   Full details

AUTUMN 2025

Autumn 2025 will be a repeat of the Summer 2025 series
