We had the pleasure of playing our first ever fixture against Phyllis Court in their beautiful clubhouse on the River Thames in Henley, with views of the river and the Chilterns countryside beyond.  We scored up after each set of six boards. We clung on to a slender lead throughout – the progressive net IMPs score after each of the four sets was +12, +10, +19 and ended with the Royal Automobile Club +7. As the scoreline demonstrates it was a closely contested match that was played in a convivial but competitive atmosphere. Our hosts were very welcoming and hospitable. Our team very much enjoyed our day at Phyllis Court. The sweltering weekend of 11/12/13 July saw a group of 10 of us, some heavily laden down with golf clubs, making the trip to Edinburgh to play a return match against the New Club.  After 25 boards, and with a well known KC to help adjudicate, I am happy to report that the RAC sneaked through, winning by 6 IMPs. Congratulations to the entire team. 

The New Club were gracious and wonderful hosts, having also entertained us with drinks the night before. After a splendid dinner we retired to the terrace to soak up the view, only leaving after the sun had finally gone down and a haar had obscured our view of the Castle. 

A very special weekend.
