Once again the team at Abbeygate are running a Bridge Tea in aid of the hospice. Its a fabulous afternoon out with a delicious tea superb raffle and of course plenty of Bridge. 1.15pm for 1.30 at the Blackbourne Centre Elmswell.

With mid summer here, it might seem a shade premature to start thinking about bridge this winter.

However, following the success of bridge on Sundays last winter the club committee has been quick to plan more of the same for later in the year.

In addition to the usual Thursday evenings, and Learn & Play on Wednesday afternoons, bridge will take place in the village hall on the first Sunday of the month - 2 November, 7 December, 4 January and 1 February.

Play will start at 11am and finish no later than 3pm so everyone can get home in the light. Further details will appear here nearer the time.

Thanks to all who have been supporting our charity nights. This year we have made a conscious decision to support very local charities many of whom are close to our members hearts. Last month we held an evening in support of SAS Success After Stroke and raised a fantastic £230. This month our Charity Night was in aid of SARS Suffolk Accident Rescue Service. This attracted 13½ tables and we have raised £270. We have another charity night planned for 25th September in support of Lizzies Fund. These are normal club nights and we encourage as many people as possible to attend. For a few extra pounds each we can make a big difference to these smaller local charities.

What a glorious evening for the Stansfield Summer Party, after a lovely sunny day the shadows were lengthening across the hallowed turf of the Stansfield Cricket pitch and we all sat down to a delicious summer feast of beef and salmon with wonderful home made salads courtesy of the members

A big thank you to Gerry for cooking the beef, some said the best they have ever had. And Elizabeth and Joyce for the succulent Salmon. The feast was followed by an exciting evening at the Bridge Tables under the expert guidance of our directors Jackie and Paddy. A big thank you to them,  managing the slightly over excited crowd after a few glasses of wine and a decent meal is not an easy task. . Finally and last but by no means least thank you to Pauline who masterminded the whole thing , once again ensuring that the whole evening went without a hitch, and a great time was had by all..

Congratulations to our overall winners Gerry and Chris and Handicap Winners Rosie and Richard. Results in the usual place.

The Bridge Lunch on Wednesday was a very happy afternoon.  We had 39 people sitting down for lunch, which was delicious

.Confit of duck followed by meringues and raspberries. Richard L did the usual behind the bar and had plenty of customers!  We had two tables with people from learn and play playing Chicago - and we were delighted that they joined us.  Jackie directed and Mickie was the scorer.  Once again a great day.

Big thanks to Emily and Gerry who came up trumps once again.

STANSFIELD bridge club was formed in 2007 and is situated in the heart of Suffolk countryside between Clare and Bury St Edmunds. It currently has a membership of about 125 and is affiliated to the EBU.

The club runs sessions play Face to Face on Thursday evenings (visitors welcome) at 7pm, and runs F2F sessions for Improvers on Wednesday afternoons (2pm)
