♠ Tuesday 3 June at 7pm - Mentored Pairs
Our first monthly mentored pairs event is proving to be very popular. A lot of mentors and students have already signed up. It is aimed at students who have been playing / learning bridge for up to 4 years. We need a few more mentors to encourage and support the students. The event will attract master points but there will be no impact on NGS. Please sign up at the club.
♥ Saturday 7 June - Two sessions 10.00 to 12.30 and 13.30 to 16.00 - Masterclass by Charlie Bucknell - ‘The Card Whisperer’
Last year Charlie ran a successful masterclass at our club. We are lucky to have him back. The topics this time are Attitude (morning) and Counting (afternoon). These techniques will help your partnership know whether to continue a suit or switch. It’s what the experts use to get good results. Cost is £19.80 per session payable on the day. No partner is necessary, but it is recommended that you attend both sessions. Sign up at the club or email me.
♦ Summer School - weekly sessions commencing Wednesday 11 June
Aimed at students with up to 4 years experience (although all are welcome), we have scheduled 2 hour sessions; some on Wednesdays 1.30pm and some on Mondays 7pm, from 11 June to 20 August. Cost is £12.60 per session payable on the day. We will run the sessions if there is sufficient interest. Please see the notice board and website for topics and dates. Sign up at the club.
The sessions scheduled in June are
- Wednesday 11 June at 1.30pm - 4th suit forcing
- Wednesday 18 June at 1.30pm - Forcing or non forcing bids
- Monday 23 June at 7.00pm - Declarer play & placing of cards
- Monday 30 June at 7.00pm - Understanding & completing the Convention card
♣ Friday 27 June at 1.30pm - Training Session - Defending against weak 2’s
Following some excellent ‘Jack High’ training sessions last year, Adam Hickman will be running another one. "You pick up your cards, all set to reach for your opening bid when disaster strikes…your opponent opens a weak 2 before you have the chance! They’re always ruining your fun, and making it so much more difficult to compete and get to the right spot…"
Fear no more…spend the afternoon with Adam learning about simple Lebensohl. A convention for just the experts? Absolutely not.
