2018 Junior Camps |
The Wessex Weekend in Cheltenham was held on 7th/8th April 2018 and was fully booked with 70 children attending. The England U21 squad used it as a training session, and at a joint session where 40 Cheltenham BC members played with 40 children, the young guns came out top.
The junior event at Ardingly in Sussex on 7th/8th July 2018 was a great success, being fully booked for boarders well in advance.
The event at the Portland Club on June 17th attracted 10 tables of bridge players, mainly from the London area. It was a fantastic venue to visit, rejoicing in the address of '36, Pall Mall', and was run by Simon Stocken on behalf of the Davenport Trust. Let's increase the number attending next year.
The Junior Teach-In at Phasels Wood in Hertfordshire ran a great bridge programme at the beginning of September, but also allowed the children to choose two very physical activities from Zip-wire, Go-Karting, Abseiling, human table football (a vicious game!) and others

Autumn camp 2024 |
Woldingham School in Surrey was the new venue for the Autumn Youth Bridge Camp weekend. 41 youngsters attended from complete beginners to squad members and assorted camp followers enjoyed lots of bridge tuition and play. This was interspersed with the usual frisbee and football but also art and drama. Many thanks are due to all the volunteer tutors and to Will Clennell for running the bridge games.
A family from Liverpool put in a bid for having travelled furthest but were trumped by the Morris family from Durham. Three generations from 1 family were in the minibridge group. For several youngsters tis was their first camp. For Richard Croot as organiser it was his first camp as organiser but he first came as a tutor in 1997. Can anyone beat that?
After prizegiving Sue Johnson was presented with the Tom Bradley award by Richard Croot our CEO in recognition of her contribution to youth bridge. Well done Sue, keep up the good work.
The results of the competitions at the camp can be seen on the RHS. They include the first event of this years Grand Prix series- 5 more to come- which culminates in September at the summer camp. The result is usually in the balance to the very end so remember to enter as many of the 3 online events and the Spring and Summer camps as you can.

Summer camp 2024 |
This was held at Kings Park in Northampton which has fantastic facilities. We were thanked for the behaviour of the youngsters by the group sharing the venue which was lovely. Everyone had a good time, learned and played a lot of bridge, pool table tennis, rounders etc. Alan, Bernie, Charlie Michael(2), Richard and Sophie were all amazing and popular tutors. Roll on the next camp at half term at Woldingham School in Surrey-Nov 1st-3rd.
