Teaching
Beginning Bridge

This course starts in the Autumn of 2025 and is suitable for complete beginners.

It will consist of three 10-week terms with the objective of equipping the student to play competitive bridge in a club environment.

The syllabus follows the English Bridge Union (EBU) Red Book Bridge for Beginners.  There are four tutors involved and all of us have passed the English Bridge Education & Development (EBED) Club Teacher Essentials course.  Each lesson is timed to last two hours.

  • Location: The lessons will be delivered on Tuesday evenings in the restaurant at Grattons Indoor Bowls Club (GIBC) in Pound Hill in Crawley.  This is a comfortable environment with excellent facilities and ample parking.  All students will be enrolled as social members of GIBC and as members of Crawley Bridge Club (CBC) for the year.
  • Costs: Each term costs £70/student.  It is a requirement of the course that you have access to a copy of the Red Book which is available at the discounted price of £20.  This is offered separately so that a couple can share one if they wish. The first session is a no-obligation free taster.
  • Date for your Diary: A free taster session will be held on Tuesday 30th September 2025 at GIBC starting at 19.15.

If ou have any questions, please email Helen Kent or ring her on 07850 132845.

Suitable for recent learners, as a refresher for those returning to the game after a break and anyone keen to improve. It assumes a working knowledge of the game.

The objective is to enable the student to improve their play in an enjoyable and sociable context. You are welcome to attend as an individual; partners can be provided for you. The course will follow the topic sequence in the EBU Red Book but it is not intended to be sequential. You can dip in and out as you wish.
  • Format: There will be a limited amount of presentation material. The main focus will be on play of example hands with some individual and partnership quizzes. EBED qualified teachers will be on hand to support discussion and analysis.
  • Location:  The sessions will take place in the restaurant at Grattons Indoor Bowls Club. This is located behind the Peterhouse Parade in Pound Hill, Crawley. It provides an ideal environment including a wide screen TV, internet access and ample parking.
  • Dates and Times: The first session will start at 14.30 on Tuesday 8th July 2025 and weekly thereafter with the term concluding on 9th September.
