Fri evening Cross-Imp Pairs

This is a duplicate pairs session using cross-Imp scoring. Please arrive by 7pm so that play can start promptly at 7.15pm. We will play 24 boards with a short break at half time. The bar will be open.

You must book in advance by 5pm the day (ie Thursday) before. The session will only go ahead if we have at least two full tables. If it is cancelled we will email those who have booked, but please check the website calendar before setting out for the club.

This session is not hosted. If you would like to play but don't have a partner, please email Liza who will try to match you up with someone.

Cross-Imp scoring

The traditional method of scoring duplicate pairs games is usually matchpoints. However there are other methods of scoring, and one popular method is to use cross-Imps. Cross-Imps scores each result against all the other results in the field and then takes the average of them.

Cross-Imp scoring results in a game that is much more like teams scoring than pairs scoring, This means that it is important to bid games, especially when vulnerable, and to a slightly lesser extent to bid slams, but it's not worth risking a contract to make overtricks. It's still usually right to get as many tricks as possible, but don't ever risk going down for the sake of an overtrick. Whatever you do though, don't ever risk going down for a large penalty. Sacrificing and protective bidding are often less worthwhile than in matchpointed pairs.

Visitors
