Enter SCCBA Late-Summer Events Now!

The Blue-Pointed Midweek Swiss Pairs took place on August 27th but there are still two other competitions that are upcoming and that hopefully will pique your interest enough to enter.

• Sunday 7th September at Patcham - Green-Pointed Swiss Pairs

Another Swiss Pairs event, and the County's annual green-pointed one-day event, open to all. This time the rewards are even greater, with green points on offer for each match won or drawn.  Sandwiches can be ordered, or bring your own food.  This time we are starting at 11.00 and ending at about 6.00.

• Sunday 19th October at Patcham - SCCBA Ladies Pairs Championship

Into October, and we hold our annual, hotly-contested Ladies Pairs for those who are eligible, a two-session event that starts at 1 p.m. and finishes at around 6.  The entry fee includes a plated tea.

EBED Summer Bridge Camp

Friday August 29th to Sunday August 31st

EBED regularly runs bridge camps for people aged 7–26.  This year's Summer Bridge Camp will take place later this month at the Kings Park Conference Centre in Northampton - see full details,

Kent/Sussex Green-Pointed venture on the weekend of October 25th-26th

As in recent years, there'll be a Swiss Pairs on the Saturday and a Swiss Teams on the Sunday (see summary).  We hope that this will again be a friendly affair and attract players of all standards (green points are a bonus!).  It will again be held at Tunbridge Wells Bridge Club - a lovely facility and just next door to a Premier Inn if you want to make a weekend of it.  You can enter here.

Jim Bugden

It is with great sadness that we report that Jim, a long-standing member of the Association, passed away on 28 July, after several years of poor health.  Jim was Honorary Auditor for the Association's accounts from 2002 to 2015 and his then-employers, Baker Tilly Accountants, through Jim's good offices, sponsored our playing cards in the early days of using duplimated boards.  Jim was a very fine and courteous player, a true gentleman of the game.  Our thoughts and condolences go to his widow, Sally, at this time.

The funeral will be on on Monday 1st September at 1.30 pm at St Paul's Catholic Church, Hazelgrove Road, Haywards Heath, RH16 3PQ.

Worthing Venture Pairs

We had 22 pairs for what was a lovely day of bridge on Sunday July 20th which was enjoyed by all.  A delicious afternoon tea was provided by the ladies from Worthing.

Sussex Mixed Pairs Championship

Congratulations to Sharon Bayne and Paul Gibbons who won the 2025 Sussex Mixed Pairs Championship at the Patcham Community Centre on Sunday 13^th July.

Marathon Circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight by Mobility Scooter

Congratulations to SCCBA member Bob Whiting for his marathon circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight by mobility scooter to raise c£5K for Sage House dementia support.  Read his diary of colourful experiences along the way.
