The EBU is promoting a Festival of Bridge in September 2024.

The Dorset Contract Bridge Association is supporting this by donating 50% of the entry fees from the Chope Salver Blue Pointed Pairs Competition which is being held at the Allendale Community Centre, Wimborne on Sunday 8^th September. The Thursday Bridge Club are planning to use one of their 'charity' evenings to support CRUK (as the Charity for BIABD).

As part of this Festival the EBU is offering 20 packs of free playing cards with a BIABD logo to all affiliated clubs. The EBU are further increasing the number of packs to 30 if these are distributed by the county organisation. The Secretary of the Dorset Contract Bridge Association Alan Wilson will be contacting club secretaries by email to offer this distribution.

Allendale Bridge Club have started a new Social Duplicate session every Wednesday at the picturesque Broadstone Golf Club @ 1:15pm for a 1:30pm start. 

This session is suitable for any new player or improver. The first session you play is Free. You can come as a single, you will always be found a partner.

Following the success of the last two years, Bridport Bridge Club will again be running a new course of beginner lessons from October.

Most of the previous participants of the courses run by Barbara and Martin Angold now play at the club’s Friday ‘relaxed’ bridge sessions or other events arranged by the club.

The course takes place at Bradpole Village Hall starting on Monday October 30th, 2-4.30pm, with a free introductory session taking place on Monday 23rd October. Classes are aimed at anyone interested in learning how to play duplicate bridge and also ‘rusty’ players who have not played for a while and would like to get back on track with their bridge.

We regret to advise that Rohan Bagshawe has passed away. Rohan, was a long standing member of Christchurch BC, reguarly played in county events and was the County auditor for many years.

Many congratulations to the seven players, mostly all new to bridge, who completed EBED’s Beginners Bridge Course on 31^st May 2022 run by Jenny Hill and Pip Duncan at Milborne Port and Milborne Wick.

The successful group are most grateful for the financial support they received from Somerset County Bridge Association for start up costs, and to Dorset County Bridge Association and Sherborne Bridge Club for funding the EBTA teacher training costs.

Jenny and Pip will start running Assisted Play sessions for the group at Sherborne Bridge Club on Monday afternoons.

We are sorry to advise that Martin Brook has recently passed away. Martin represented Dorset in many events including the Western League and the Tollemache. Our sympathies are with his family & friends.

Derek Maggs, a member of Dorset, is the playing captain of the Singapore team playing in the Bermunda Bowl - the Open Teams Bridge World Championships - 28th March to the 9th April. You can follow some matches on BBO VuGraph.

Dorset members and clubs should note the following update to the county's competition regulations.

"Junior Players (under 26) entry fees. The county will not levy any charge to clubs for Junior players. A maximum of half the entry fee is to be charged to Junior players. Clubs should set entry fees accordingly".

If you are not using the EBU20B type please switch to it, and note that from 1^st April 2017 the EBU will enforce the use of the EBU20B type of card at all EBU congresses.
