NEWSLETTER

Hi All,

It is hard to believe that we are nearly halfway through the year already. I have a few things to mention in this newsletter. The first being the next quarterly payment.

QUARTERLY PAYMENTS

The next quarterly amount is due on 1st July, and it will remain at £25. This will cover July, August and September. The amount to pay when you play will also remain at £3.00. Here are the bank details

NatWest Sort Code            60-01-31

Account Number              59862181

Stoke Mandeville Bridge Club

Please put your name as reference on the payment. Steve is happy to accept cash. Please bring this along with you on a Monday evening.

BRIDGE WEEKEND.    16 - 18th JANUARY 2026.

We have decided to run another bridge weekend at Staverton Park. If you are interested in coming, the details are all on our website. The registration form is available by a link on our website or you can simply click the link here

Chris has made the form easy for you to fill in online and to send to Lesley.

If you still have any queries, please ask Lesley or me. If you have any problems with the form or filling it out online, Lesley will be happy take your details by email or phone and will complete the form for you. Her details are on the website. We will also have some forms available at the club.

LOCAL CHARITY EVENT.    MONDAY 14th JULY.

As mentioned at the AGM, this year's local charity event will be for Thame Air Ambulance. This was the charity that Brian Smith wanted any donations to go to. So, in memory of Brian, we will support his charity. All the table money will be added to any extra donations we receive on the evening from our members.

LEAGUE OF EIGHT.

We have entered three teams for a few years now. As I mentioned at the AGM, Carol is standing down as captain of the C team. If we want to continue with a C team, we need someone to volunteer to take over. All the matches are played on Real Bridge over the winter months, usually starting in September and finishing March/April. There are normally 8 or 9 matches, depending on the number of teams in each division. We will obviously help you with how to run it all and it is easy to do. Please let me know if you are interested in being captain of the C team. We need to know by 30th June.

SETTING UP THE ROOM ON A CLUB NIGHT.

This was discussed at the AGM regarding the need for help on a Monday evening. I suggested a rota with one helper arriving at 6.30. David then suggested that if we just put out the tables, everyone can get their own chair. We agreed to trial this suggestion for a few weeks and then see what everyone thought. I had some turning up early to help in May, which was much appreciated but it meant we were not trialling David's suggestion. So, we are now doing tables only for June/July and then the members can decide if this is working well or not.

MY 70th BIRTHDAY/CHARITY EVENT.

Thank you to all those that came to help me celebrate my 70th birthday. It was a great afternoon. A big thank you to all those that helped on the day, the home-made puddings, and the lovely birthday cake. Also, thank you very much to all that donated to my chosen charity, Florence Nightingale. Everyone was very generous, and we raised £1,020.00. I took the money into them last Friday, and they were very happy to receive this amount.

I think this covers all that I need to say.

Best Wishes, Mary.
