WILTON BRIDGE CLUB
MINUTES OF THE AGM – 19TH MARCH 2025
The Chairman opened the meeting at 1.00pm welcomed everyone and thanked them for their support over the last year.
Attendance : 29 members
Minutes of 2024 AGM – read with no matters arising.
Proposed Carol Morrison
Seconded Pauline Stephenson
Chairman’s Report : Following our takeover of the Monday spot we hope that the Monday club members now feel they are members of the Wilton. It obviously meant more work but we now have Directors Sandra, Liz and Joan, the 2 Pauls scoring, Vicky and Denise organising teas. Gary comes along early and helps put the tables up. He also repaired a number of them and we now have 14 usable tables.
We do need help at the end of each session. Obviously there are some members who are not able to help but clearing at least your own chair and others who are not able would be very helpful.
Competitions : We hold two competitions each year – the mini max in June on a Wednesday which Linda and Kate won and the Club Pairs in October also held on a Wednesday which Anita and Sandra won. We intend to have a third competition every April which will be held on a Monday named the Easter Cup. This year it will be on Monday 7th April.
Computer : We have upgraded our website. We have collected every email address so we can now contact everyone by email rather than a notice board, New members names (only) will be on the website for comments if any. This does mean it will be the responsibility of members to check the website. We will still make announcements. Paul Janes has offered to be Webmaster.
It was agreed by members to use the website.
Election of officers : All four members of the Committee agreed to stand again. Subsequently however Neil has a medical problem and will be having treatment for 3 months. He will only be here when he feels up to it. Obviously we wish him well. Neil took over the scoring from Patrick very reluctantly and much against his wishes. However he really stuck at it and has done a very good job. I would like to thank him for that and also for being Treasurer.
Tony has a new title – Events and Catering officer but he does all sorts of other jobs as well. Christine Williams is taking over from Neil.
Proposed : Carole Morrison
Seconded : Cuckoo Healey
Treasurers Report : Paul audited the accounts for Neil. Neil has thanked him for doing this. In Neils absence Paul read the accounts.
The clubs finances are in good shape. The main reason being inhouse catering – the Golf Club charged large sums for coffee and tea and no biscuits. Rooms hire has increased due to two sessions. There is no reason to increase table money or subscriptions at this stage.
Proposed : Anita Cullen
Seconded : Frances Wood
Any other business : Bank Holidays – we are hoping to play but only if there are enough people to make it financially viable.
Mini Max competition – it was suggested to match people up for this competition. We will discuss this.
Hilary Rhodes said how upset everyone was when the Monday Club finished so suddenly and abruptly. And how delighted everyone was when it was announced the Wilton would be taking over.
Linda commented on the noise at the end of a session when some members are still playing.
Ann Spencer thanked the Committee for their work.
The meeting closed at 1.15pm
History |
The Club was established in the 1960's when it was amalgamated with the Brassey Club by the late founder members, Marjorie and Ron Cowpland. The Club's name was derived from the Wilton Road, Bexhill where the first bridge meeting took place.
